Electric toothbrush for children
Dentists recommend using an electric toothbrush such as the rechargeable Y-Brush toothbrush for children to ensure healthier dental hygiene. Toothbrush manufacturers such as Philips Sonicare offer fun and practical models designed for young children. In short, here are some explanations about electric toothbrushes for children that can help parents choose and use them correctly.
Toothbrushes for children: electric or manual
To brush children's teeth, using a special “kids” toothbrush is essential. Designed to fit small mouths, children's toothbrushes work more simply than those for adults. Since young children's teeth are sensitive, an electric toothbrush is the most suitable option for ensuring better oral health, rather than a manual toothbrush.
Indeed, children's electric toothbrushes feature soft bristles, an integrated timer and a pressure sensor. Children only need to place the brush bristles against their teeth so they can thoroughly remove plaque and prevent cavities. Electric toothbrushes for children also help ensure the recommended brushing time is respected, thanks to the timer that alerts children when the 2-minute period has elapsed.
A manual toothbrush, on the other hand, can damage the gums. At this age, children have not yet mastered brushing techniques and may therefore scrub too hard. In addition, manual toothbrushes do not make it possible to determine the necessary brushing time.
Brushing children's teeth: the golden rules
The use of an electric toothbrush by children should be recommended by a dentist. In general, using an electric toothbrush for children is recommended from the age of 3. At this age, children can hold a large-handled toothbrush more firmly. However, some children's electric toothbrush models can be used before this age. They are designed to support the emergence of the first tooth by massaging the gums. Electric toothbrushes for children under 3 must also have extra-soft bristles and must not emit vibrations. In addition, it is important for children to respect the necessary brushing time to keep their teeth as clean as possible.

To ensure healthier oral hygiene, adults should supervise children's toothbrushing while showing them the correct techniques, up to the age of six. Young children are advised to brush their teeth twice a day for 2 minutes. To ensure this time is respected, parents should set the electric toothbrush timer.
Using a toothpaste suited to their teeth and in a small amount is also recommended. For example, use fluoride-free toothpastes such as those offered by Colgate, Elmex or Elgydium. In addition, children's electric toothbrushes should be replaced every 3 months. Otherwise, the brush head should also be changed or replacement brush heads should be kept available.
However, the most important thing is having the right technique for brushing your teeth properly.
Children's toothbrush electric: how do you choose one?
To give children healthier teeth, they need the best electric toothbrush. First of all, remember that brushing teeth should be a more fun experience for young children. In this case, choose a children's electric toothbrush with designs featuring cartoon heroes: Star Wars, Sonic, Frozen…
Next, choose a rechargeable electric toothbrush with a round, rotating and removable head. This highly hygienic children's toothbrush removes plaque and effectively cleans between the teeth. In addition to looking for the best value for money and soft bristles, choose a small brush head that properly cleans the entire mouth.
