Tooth pain: how to relieve it quickly

Douleur dent : comment les soulager rapidement - Y-Brush

At the first sign of tooth pain, you should consider consulting a dentist. While waiting for the appointment, you will have to relieve the pain which can quickly become unbearable. Find below the solutions and a treatment that will help you to calm a toothache.

Why do you have toothache?

There are several reasons for toothache. All of them are caused by poor oral hygiene or eating habits that lead to tooth decay. Here are the main causes of a toothache:

Dental caries

This bacterial disease is manifested by the creation of a cavity in the enamel and dentine. It is caused by the presence of tartar on the teeth. This infected cavity will cause varying degrees of tooth pain. The tooth also becomes sensitive to cold and heat.

Pulpitis

Pulpitis is considered a complication of tooth decay. It occurs when the cavity reaches the dental pulp. A pressure problem in the pulp will cause a very sharp pain, which is commonly called toothache.

Dental abscess

Like tooth decay, tooth abscess is a microbial infection caused by dental plaque. It is located in the gum or nerve at the root of the tooth. Swelling, redness, pus and hypersensitivity are some of the symptoms of an abscessed tooth. The tooth may also appear to be higher than the others.

Gingivitis

Gingivitis
is a periodontal infection characterised by painful inflammation of the gum tissue. It is accompanied by redness, bleeding and temporary or permanent bad breath.

Although gingivitis develops very gradually, it can lead to periodontitis, which causes the loss of the diseased tooth.

Your toothache may also be caused by not using the Y-Brush. You can therefore use a toothbrush that removes 15% more plaque than a traditional toothbrush.

How to relieve toothache

There are several ways to soothe toothache. Painkillers, mouthwashes, essential oils and certain plants are effective.

Painkillers

Paracetamol is the most widely used painkiller. Its ability to alleviate pain has been proven. You can take 1 g every 4 hours. You should not take more than 4 g of paracetamol in one day.

Ibuprofen is also an anti-inflammatory that relieves toothache. However, its use has been discouraged for some time, as it may hide the symptoms of an infection, which distorts the diagnosis of the dentist.

Mouthwash

The antiseptics in a mouthwash help to relieve pain. Some contain painkillers that have the same effect. Rinsing the mouth with these products, sometimes mixed with water, improves oral health and hygiene and relieves pain.

Natural remedies

Cloves, ginger, Aloe Vera, fresh garlic, vinegar and certain essential oils (coconut oil, peppermint oil, lavender oil, etc.) can be used to soothe toothache.

You will also find herbal and homeopathic products that can be used as painkillers. Don't forget ice cubes, which are always effective, albeit temporary, on the painful area. This solution will give you a little respite while you wait for a dental surgeon to treat the pain.

You can opt for the Y-Brush toothbrush. It is based on sonic technology. It is much less aggressive than the oscillo-rotating ones. It therefore cleans the teeth gently.

We hope this guide has helped you understand why you have a toothache and how you can prevent it from getting worse.
